Message From our Founder

Dear Rukus,

There was a time when Hip Hop did not exist at UCF. There were no hip hop dance teams in Orlando at all! The UCF marching band did not play R&B or Hip Hop during half time. Nothing that looked like you existed on campus. RUKUS forever changed the stuffy climate of UCF. You showed the Orlando community that it doesn't matter your size, ethnicity or sexuality we are all beautiful, we get along, we love each other and we can BRING IT harder than anybody out there! There was not an organization on campus that we did not work with. Since RUKUS was founded in 2003 you've done everything from perform at every major UCF event (including halftime at the football games), BET, Telemundo, Sports Illustrated, opened for Nelly, opened for Chingy, been the official dance team for 102 Jamz Radio Station, several parades, dance competitions, charity events and so much more. Every day you take on a new challenge and you conquer them all. Because of RUKUS so many of you will have an enriched college experience and make life-long friends. I started RUKUS because I wanted create something positive, diverse and funky. Many people said I was crazy, that not many people would be interested...but almost 200 people showed up to my first audition. RUKUS you are the heartbeat of UCF. You represent everyone and you do it well. Please know this...the late nights, arguments, twisted ankles, break-up and make-ups, member changes, dissapointments, blood sweat and tears are all worth it in the end. You will look back on this time in your life and be proud of what you accomplished. So, no matter what always stick together, never allow negativity to seep in (and if it does, say a prayer and do that chant!) Represent hard for your family, wear those t-shirts to the union and stroll on Wednesdays, continue to work with kids so there will be a RUKUS in 2018, don't be afraid to fight for the performances and shows you really want to do (anything is possible). Love each other and most importantly love yourself. Remember when you're performing you should be just as exhausted from shouting, chanting and cheering each other on as you are from dancing! Everytime you hit the floor remember to create a RUKUS! I created RUKUS to change the lives of others, but today you have forever changed me. Please know that I do and will always love you. I am so honored to be apart of your legacy. My heart is full. Love Always
